To better serve the production industry’s growing ambitions, our Vancouver team is looking for a fun-loving, trustworthy and adaptable candidate to join us in the role of Lighting Maintenance Technician. This is a full-time, permanent position located in Vancouver.

The ideal Lighting Maintenance Technician is a team player, forward thinker, and is key to our operational workflow.  Whether the challenge is to load a large order, maintain an accurate inventory, or process equipment to our rental ready standards, attitude and accuracy is key.

Responsibilities

Troubleshooting

  • Support production crews with technical advice when they experience challenges with the proper operation and functioning of WFW equipment on set

Testing & Inspection

  • Support the Testing & Inspection (Triage) teams with technical advice to better equip them to efficiently and effectively test and inspect WFW equipment

Assessment

  • Determine the likely cause of the malfunction(s) in the equipment
    • If the malfunction is likely the result of mishandling by the client, prepare Loss & Damage information and paperwork for submission to the client and support the Maintenance Manager and the show CSR in answering any client’s questions related to said Loss & Damage
  • Use your expertise to determine if equipment should be retired due to the extent of the damage, age of the piece of equipment or availability of parts for the necessary repairs
  • Determine the most effective means to repair the equipment and return it to its safe operational state per the manufacturer’s original specifications or an alternate standard that has been approved by the Maintenance Manager or National Director, Maintenance
  • Determine the parts necessary to affect such repairs and work with vendors to source, get quotes for and acquire such parts in the most efficient manner
  • Estimate the cost of such repairs, including the parts needed and the time necessary to affect such repairs
  • Create and complete Repair Ticket documentation for all repairs per company procedures
  • Identify potential mishandling or misuse by WFW staff and advise the appropriate person on methods to minimize said mishandling

Remove, Replace & Repair

  • Identify, remove and replace modules within a piece of lighting equipment
  • Repair mechanical and electrical components in lighting equipment
  • Amend Repair Ticket information as appropriate

General

  • Work collaboratively with the maintenance team and other departments to maintain an efficient workflow of repairs on a daily basis
  • Assist in the prioritizing of repairs based on operational needs
  • Support LGP Operations with technical knowledge and expertise as needed
  • Support other maintenance departments with technical expertise as needed
  • Participate in regular maintenance meetings as scheduled by your supervisor, the Maintenance Manager, and the National Director, Maintenance as needed
  • Ensure that your work area is maintained in a clean, safe and organized manner and that all activities are done safely and in compliance with WorkSafe guidelines
  • Participate in training opportunities to ensure technical knowledge is current and maintained, including additional training for new equipment that is added to the rental inventory
  • Participate in feedback sessions regarding national maintenance programs and standards
  • Communicate regularly with team members and your supervisor
  • Other Duties as required.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience (or equivalent) troubleshooting electrical components and assemblies; experience with entertainment industry lighting a strong asset.
  • Electrical training or equivalent experience, and extensive knowledge of electrical theory.
  • Demonstrable experience with electrical maintenance tools, including analog and digital meters, soldering irons, other maintenance equipment, and benchtop mechanical tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.).
  • Strong root cause problem solving skills.
  • Experience with and knowledge of film equipment an asset.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-oriented environment both independently and on a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and ability to take direction.
